Reach for t’Sky
Season 1, Episode 1: The Goal
I’m not a natural writer. I've had to work hard to become even semi-proficient. Give me numbers any day.
So when I announced in 2017 that I was going to write a book, it was met with a certain degree of scepticism - and rightly so.
Was it a big, hairy, audacious goal? For me, absolutely!
I started with good intentions: I wrote, I toiled, and I procrastinated. Eventually, I decided I was a better coach than a writer, so I pivoted and created coaching programmes that I could deliver face-to-face instead.
When people asked about the book, I downplayed the idea, hoping they wouldn’t bring it up again.
Fast-forward seven years. It’s January 2024, and I find myself at a loose end. What now? Maybe it’s time to try writing again? Four months and 400 pages later, my first book hits the virtual Amazon bookshelves.
The lesson? Big, hairy, audacious goals aren’t SMART - they’re unlikely to be Realistic or Time-Bound. But that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t have them.
Set them. Keep them. One day, you might just realise them.
